The MCWT was founded in 1897 when european Moravians took over after the London Mission Society, which began – but didn’t succeed – some mission-work in an area outside Tabora (the western part). Until 1962 the MCWT was considered as a Mission Province; the Leader was a Superintendent inserted by the British Moravian Church. After 1962 the Province became a  Moravian Church Province including it’s own leadership e.g. bishop and Provincial Board.
