Moravian Church Rukwa Tanzania - MCRT

The Moravian Church i Rukwa Tanzania (MCRT) is a Province under the worldwide Moravian Unity and it is one of the four Moravian Provinces in Tanzania. The worldwide Moravian Unity has provinces in Europe, Africa, North- and South America and Asia.

History
In the period up to 1986 the Moravian Church in Rukwa showed a very strong and fast development. And when the area became an independent Moravian Province, MCRT, this development continued. In the beginning MCRT only was a very few congregations. But in 2002 the number was increased more than 300 congregations! This growth has particularly happened among the Walungus, the Wanyamwezies and the Wanyamwangas. The Province has been growing from the start and until now – a development just alike the other three Moravian Provinces in Tanzania.

Fakta

Until 1986 the Moravian Church in Rukwa was a part of Moravian Church I Western Tanzania (MCWT). In 1986 Moravian Church in Rukwa was separated from MCWT and got it’s own leadership – a bishop – and a Provincial Board. The Moravian Church in Rukwa Tanzania, MCRT, was born! The church and the mission was at that time only about 20 years old, except the mission work in the south-west, which was significantly older. Former missionaries from the London Mission Society were living and working in Ulungu, and that became the beginning for the Moravian Church in the area from Lake Tanganyika to Zambia.
